What  is the  meaning of the word resolution?

It is customary to make good New Year’s resolutions in order to achieve new goals and improve one’s performance. For entrepreneurs, it is an unmissable event to take stock, analyze the results of all areas of activity of the company and leave with new perspectives. So how do you define a resolution?

According to the Larousse dictionary, a resolution is an attitude, a state of mind. It is the quality of someone who does not allow himself to be diverted from his projects. In other words, we could say that it is the fact of keeping the motivation to accomplish new things and achieve the desired goal, whatever the obstacles encountered.

Examples of New Entrepreneur Resolutions in 2023

The majority of entrepreneurs make resolutions after the countdown to the new year. The list of these good resolutions is diverse. It differs for each entrepreneur. However, they are all related to their personal and professional life.

Examples of these new resolutions include:

  • Master a new technology
  • Study an additional language
  • Make business trips to promote products abroad
  • Spend more time with family
  • Go to the gym more often
  • Avoid unnecessary expenses

We also have more unexpected resolutions like taking salsa lessons to learn to dance but also to have fun. This type of resolution may seem surprising to an entrepreneur. But, knowing that the smooth running of a company also depends on the physical and mental well-being of its leader, it is important to take care of your personal life. Successful entrepreneurs are those who know how to enjoy the present moment and manage to spend quality time with their families in order to keep their spirits high.

What good resolutions to take?

New resolutions are a great way to regain control of your life and set new goals for yourself.

At the beginning of the year, motivation is high and we see that entrepreneurs make many resolutions…quickly abandoned. They are however all very good since they aim at good objectives.

However, to avoid finding yourself in December with half of your projects unfinished, we recommend that you analyze all of your products and services. Don’t make hasty decisions. Take the time to reflect and ask yourself the right questions. Identify the real problems to be solved and areas for improvement. Do not hesitate to question your collaborators if necessary and to consult the customer reviews.

Write a list of professional resolutions

Clearly defining new resolutions is a success factor for the year. This is not something to be taken lightly.

To do this, make an appointment with yourself to define your new resolutions. Get into a quiet place where you won’t be disturbed, then write down your list of new resolutions. The goal is to have clear ideas to put in place according to your products and services. This list of resolutions should be comprehensive and should cover all aspects of your business. Do not hesitate to write down all the good resolutions that seem relevant to you. You can classify them by type of products, services, fields of activity, customers, suppliers, partners, etc.

Writing your new resolutions allows you to visualize them so as not to lose sight of your objectives. In addition, it sheds light on your interests and what to focus on in the new year in order to set the actions to put in place and set up the right environment for success.

How to make new resolutions?

You have just made your list of good resolutions! It’s not over. Now you need to select your priorities. The objective is to retain a maximum of 3 to 5 actions.

You can establish a priority matrix based on what is urgent and important. For example, a resolution that is urgent and important should be ranked as a top priority. A resolution that is neither urgent nor important will come last. By doing so, you will be able to define your priority resolutions. This list allows you to not waste time on futile things and to stay focused on the most important things.

However, setting up new things requires time to adapt. It is therefore necessary not to do everything at the same time. Break each resolution down into smaller tasks to make them easier to accomplish.

The goal is to make small daily gestures to achieve the goal and stick to it over the long term. Thus, you will discover that success is within reach.

How do you keep your New Year’s resolutions?

Don’t set yourself goals that are too difficult to achieve. Arm yourself with courage and perseverance. Also know how to take advantage of the present moment so as not to constantly keep your eyes fixed on the final objective. The important thing is to stay focused on daily tasks.

For each resolution, small objectives must be defined over a well-defined period. This can be monthly or every three months or more depending on the purpose. You can use the SMART method, namely establishing a Specific, Measurable, Acceptable, Realistic and Time-bound objective.

Write SMART goals

Regarding the writing of your goals, let’s take the example of the gym. Do not just write “I want to go to the sports club more often”, but rather “I want to go to the gym for an hour, twice a week”. For the example of travel, you should write “I will go on a business trip once a month”. And for learning a new language, we advise you to write “I will learn English 30 minutes a day”. Thus, your objectives are clear, well defined and allow you to set up new routines.

Apply this method for all projects in your resolutions list. Depending on the period you have previously defined, study your results to see your progress. If, however, you have not achieved your objectives within the allotted time, you must analyze the reasons, identify the problem and readjust your actions accordingly. Either way, congratulations! It is better to see the glass half full and not half empty. You have certainly made progress. This is the most important.

Write a weekly TO-DO list

It is a classic method but which continues to prove itself. It is advisable to write your weekly schedule and define your tasks starting with the highest priority. Thus, you start your week by first carrying out the actions relating to your resolutions. So you move forward each week towards the success of your goals.
